What causes hives, and what's a good way to get rid of them?
Too, how are they easily relieved if the itch is unbearable..Calamine lotion doesn’t seem to do the best of a job. Doctors have told me to give my son Benadryl, but what I really want to know is what causes it.? My son has had them about 4-5 times in his life and I think it ocurs with him whenever he’s having an allergic reaction to something or if he’s sleeping over at a relative’s house.

Benedryl cream works really good too. My son swells terribly when bitten by mosquitoes or once a spider. I give him one tsp of Benedryl then I put a little cream on the area. If he gets hives just at a family member’s house, maybe there is something there that he’s sensitive to . It may be dust, or cat dander, or even the other person’s fabric detergent (if they’re hugging on your son). Good Luck, I know it can be frustrating. Ask your doctor if you are really worried about it.
allergies cause them….perhaps there is something at your relatives’ house that he is allergic to? A cat? mold? lots of dust? a certain type of food he eats there? Think of every possible thing - allergies comes in all kinds of ways.
Also, benadryl makes an anti-itch cream that you could use that will probably work better than calamine lotion.
acupuncture and/or homeopathy. i have been dealing with hives for almost a year. i was muscle tested (by acupuncturist), and was told what i was allergic to exactly. it was amazing. i was told more by my acupuncturist than any other doctor/allergist. regular docs don’t know crap and their tests suck. trust me, get an acupuncturist appt. and/or see a homeopathic doctor. i am in the process of getting treated using homeopathics. there is help! good luck and God be with you. I know u are suffering.
