Ok so I had some allergic reaction to something yesterday and I have hives now. I’ve used Benadryl to try and get rid of them but nothing has really happened. A lot of the spots have gone away, but then it’s popped up in new places, and when those spots have disappeared, it’s come back where it was before. I took a cold shower today and I felt better, but it still didn’t go away. We went to the doctors today and they gave me a perscription for some steroids. (not the ones that Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens took) I have to take these for 6 days. Is there any other methods of treatment I can use, and what things should I avoid from doing?
Oh yeah, and I’ve been using HydroCortis0ne Lotion.

I went to the ER and got steroids and benadryl. Been taking them but I keep breaking out and scratching myself like crazy. Is there anything I can do, any home remedies that would help make them clear up and finally go away? It’s been going on for two weeks I’d figured they would be gone already. Any help would be greatfully appreciated!!

I was wondering if you can develop a tolerance to antihistamines such as benadryl if taken often, i.e. will it become insufficient like alcohol to alcoholics and antibiotics for bacteria?

And while we’re on the subject, i get hives very frequently and was wondering if anyone knows any good treatment besides benadryl.

thanks much

I have been breastfeeding my daughter since she was born with no problems at all. That changed about a week before her first birthday, I started to get hives on the sides of my breasts and tummy. They were not really bad but have gotten worse over the past 7 weeks, they are on my legs and arms now. I did not change my diet or soap and the only pills I take are my prenatals. The only thing that I can possibly link it to is hormones because The week after the hives started I got my period back for the first time since getting pregnant. I dont want to stop breastfeeding, my daughter isnt on whole milk yet, she drinks a little at a time but not enough, and she still nurses to sleep at night. I was just wanting to know what i can do to help with the hives, creams dont really hlep that much so i was thinking about benadryl or something but want to make sure it is safe for my daughter. Any advice will help, Thanks

Friday night I broke out in hives all over my chest and shoulders. Then they disappeared from my chest and shoulders and moved to my forearms and legs. I took Benadryl and used anti-itch cream, and by morning I was totally clear. I was fine all of yesterday, but then after supper I had just a few little tiny dots and some patches return. I haven’t been eating anything that I don’t normally eat, so I don’t think it’s a food allergy. We have no new lotions, shampoos, laundry detergents, or anything.

I did get the Gardasil shot, but that was a month ago, so I don’t think that has anything to do with it. I was also on Provera treatment for 10 days at the beginning of the month, but I’ve been off of that for a couple weeks now. The only thing I can think of is that it’s the virus that I have. I’ve had a bad cough all week, and kind of a cold, so could that be it? Any ideas anyone?

I know I’m not allergic to anything That I have been eating or using… i have used them before… My upper lip swelled in between 3am and 10 am.. Some time while I was sleeping, I only break out in hives (I think they are hives on my hips and a few patches on the top of my leg, or lower back, I was starting to think it was my electric blanket, but I have used it before with out this problem. I was taking benadryl, but last night I decided to stop, because, they stopped making me sleepy, even taking two and they werent helping any more, I wouldnt break out that night before I went to bed but, I would itch my legs or my back and break out… Thats another thing I dont break out until I itch except this time
no face washes, no lotions, no nothing, I did move and was thinking it was something about my new house, or plants, but my school is at the same elevation as my new house and I didn’t react to anything there, benadryl makes me break out more after it goes through my system also, im not really sure if they are hives, they look like mosquito bites, they show up when I start itching… and get bigger and more raised when I itch, also to add more its along my underwear/pants line that I break out most, and on my knees where my jeans are a little tight, Im not allergic to my laundry detergent, shampoo or soap, I do know im a tad bit allergic to chlorine/bleach and at my old house we used well water, and I do break out more along those spots when I do take a shower… I also break out more when I use my electric blanket or my heater
also, If it is an allergic reaction I don’t have a clue what I’m allergic too other than morphine and Tylenol pm. also they go away with cold, I walked to the store today and in that 5-10 minutes my lip swelling went down. But when I take a cold or hot shower I get itchy and they get worse.. I dunno my doctor doesnt either
also, its affected my heat… I put my electric blanket under my sheets and I broke out on my arms and upper back today

I woke up this morning and had hives that started in my armpits and have just continued spreading all day! I went to the ER earlier and they gave me some pills that are stronger than Benadryl and some Hydro-cortisone Cream. I was wondering if anyone knew of any home remedies that worked for them? I was looking them up online and I just wanna mention that I don’t have a bathtub, just a shower. I would appreciate any help SO MUCH! Thanks!

I have been suffering with hives since last January I also have swelling of my lips and eyes. I have been to a specialist who says I am not allergic to any thing that he can find. I feel flushed alot have itchy hands and sometimes suffer from extreme anal itch. My bowel movements have increased and I have acid reflux sometimes. I have gained a few extra pounds and my breathing seems heavy at times. I am constantly tired and I stay hot. I have been to the doctor and the emergency room numerous times and all they do is prescribe me with short term steroids and a allergy medication similar to benadryl. I feel as though I am going crazy, I cannot find a specific pattern with my sweling or hives or a specific culprit. My insides seem to burn alot but this could be nerves because of frustration with my problem. HELP I am going crazy people should not have to live like this although their doctors tell them they have to.

ever since i came back from a one week summer camp a few weeks ago, I’ve been breaking out in hives almost every day! I read on the internet that Diphenhydramine works for treatment, I’ve been using Benadryl gel, it gets rid of my hives but they keep on coming back the next day! My hives often come up on my face, around my cheeks, nose, and eyebrows. My diet hasn’t been effected at all, and I didn’t switch to some product. My dad is convinced its my makeup, which doesn’t explain why I have hives on my cheeks because I didn’t put foundation on today. Help me!

Our 3yr. old Lab breaks out in hives due to an acute allergy from something. We had to rush him to the emergency vet last night coz he had tiny bumps on his skin all over his body- head, legs , back, everywhere. The vet said he had an acute allergy to something and gave him a Benadryl shot. No one has been able to tell us why this is happeneng and this is the second time it has occured. One vet suggested that we get his blood tested to see what he is allergic to and that they could give him a shot to cure it. Only problem is, it could cost 0 + thru the course of a year to get him treated that way, and we would have this problem for the rest of his life. We can’t afford to spend that kind of money every year but we want him to stop suffering. Is there any holistic remedy or herbal treatment for him to where he’s not having to take shots or pop pills for the rest of his life just to be himself?
He’s feeling miserable and I hate seeing him suffer like this. Please help.

I have hives that have been coming and going since last week. I already know what caused them and I’m taking generic benadryl which seems to be working but it takes awhile to kick in and once it wears off the hives come back instantly and it itches a lot! I’m afraid the hives will spread to my face! I can handle hives everywhere else but not the face. I have hives on my scalp which are even itchier than the hives elsewhere, I read that peppermint can help to reduce the inflammation and pain caused by hives so if I use an organic deep conditioning treatment with peppermint will that soothe my itching or will it aggravate it?

I have been having an allergic reation to something for the past month and can’t figure out what it is. I was taking benadryl which helped but made me really drowsy. A doctor gave me a presciption but when it ended the hives came back. They advised me to start taking clariton, but that hasn’t helped at all. Anyone have any remedies they could help me out with?

Since last Spring I have been breaking out in either an itchy rash or hives all over my body. I’m sure it is not food or any thing I put directly on my skin. It seems to happen when I’m in a situation that changes my body temperature. Going into a hot office. stress or working up a sweat of some kind. Benadryl takes care of the itch but I have to take it each time it happens so that might be 3 or 4 times a day. I can never get to my DR when it happens any ideas??

I was put on Macrobid for a UTI and I told the doctor that the last time I took it I got hives two days after the treatment was over. She said that it was probably just a coincidence since if I had an allergy it would show up while on the antibiotic. So, again two days after stopping I am so itchy I can’t stand it. I took Benadryl but I was curious if anyone else ever had a reaction after stopping meds and not while on them?
